Jeff and I are in the Edinburgh airport waiting to fly to Paris via Amsterdam and T/B are making their way to the train station bound for London. We'll miss sharing "wow" moments as we rounded the curves of the countryside to see a scene more beautiful than the last. We'll miss sharing bites of each other's meals as we expanded our palates with traditional Scottish delicacies. But I doubt I'll miss grabbing my stomach as Tom spun around the roundabouts, especially when he did it two or three times deciding which exit to take!
Guess it's time to switch gears from pub-scouting to sharpening my brasserie-finding skills. Tom has the computer, so hopefully we'll happen across a computer as well.

Well, we got to Paris about 3:30 this afternoon (now we're 7 hours ahead of home) and it took us a couple of hours to take the train, then subway to our hotel in the heart of the Opera District. One of us lost our spirit of adventure struggling with the luggage amongst the throngs of people and tiny turnstiles in the stations as well as not knowing exactly where he was going in a new city, but we quickly got acclimated to this incredible city and are having a blast.
Our hotel, Hotel Duminy Vendome, is a typical little European hotel and is located in an exciting part of town. We first walked to Vendome Square and sat at a crowded little sidewalk cafe (one of many) and had an appetizer of escargot, crusty bread and wine....how cute is that! The weather is absolutely perfect! We walked to the Seine River and bought a 5-day boat pass, figuring we can use it everyday if we desire, and I think we will after experiencing this treat. We rode it at dusk and by the time we had looped around the whole route and saw sites we've heard of all our lives, it was dark and all the buildings were lit up and the city just glowed. Since it was a beautiful summer Saturday night, there were lots of people riding the boats, enjoying dinner cruises and just sitting along the river banks enjoying a picnic or a bottle of wine. As we rode down this famous river in this historic city, we decided that this was a great way to spend our anniversary. For those who have been here, you know what I'm talking about....for those who haven't been here, you need to come!
Heading back to our hotel, we walked past the Louvre which is gorgeous at night. We will go there in a day or so, but it's sooooo big! We ended the evening with a late light supper (ham and cheese on a French baguette) at a sidewalk cafe, talking about what a neat trip this has been and looking forward to the next several days.

That is an awesome anniversary! :) And another great anniversary present is that Arkansas State beat A&M! Can't get much better than a romantical evening in Paris and some good football! :)
