A couple of years ago, we began talking with the kids about taking a family vacation. It didn't take us long to all agree on Disney World. We hoped to go last year, but our house remodeling project took longer than planned and we couldn't just leave Juan in charge of all the renovations, for heaven's sake. Then Betsy's pregnancy moved our plan into 2012. Although this trip was conceived long before Kinsley was, we decided it would be easier to take a 6 month old than a 2 year old, or multiple little ones in the next few years. This trip is for the adults and she is getting to tag along. We'll just see how that works out.
Figuring April was a good time to go regarding weather and crowds, we chose April 18-23 for our adventure. We used a Disney travel agent Betsy found on her neighborhood message board. She helped make a lot of our arrangements, gave us some helpful hints and she was paid by Disney, not us.
Jeff and I left Houston mid-morning, the Georges left early in the afternoon and the Cashes left Dallas after work. It was M's last day at her old job (she begins new one next week), so they were in vacay mode for sure. Apparently, they weren't the only ones...Miss K was ready to roll!
We stayed at the Coronado Springs Resort on the WDW property. It's also a convention center which means it's huge. It had a Mexican villa theme and sprawled across several acres, including a lake. Our room was on the backside which meant a long walk to breakfast each morning. It had a really neat pool area call the Dig Site.
J and I took a shuttle bus to Downtown Disney. After realizing we had missed lunch, we had an early dinner at Fulton's Crab House which was a replica of a riverboat with a nice view on the water. We shared some appetizers and salad which hit the spot.
Downtown Disney is comprised of three areas, West Side, Marketplace and Pleasure Island, which is a conglomeration of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. And unlike the parks, it doesn't require an admission ticket. We enjoyed walking around soaking up all things Disney.
Once the Georges arrived, we all went to Ragland Road Pub where B&B had a delicious dinner. We have a 5-day dining plan where we each get a walk-up meal (fast food), a snack and a seated dinner. I think we will be eating our way through this trip as the food options look really good!
